• Swimming is a fun and healthy activity, but it can also be dangerous, especially when safety measures are not followed. Drowning is a leading cause of accidental death worldwide, and it can happen to anyone, regardless of their age, gender, or swimming ability. Therefore, it is important to know some emergency life-saving techniques when swimming, which can help you save someone’s life.
  • Call for Help: If you notice someone struggling in the water or drowning, call for help immediately. Alert lifeguards or other people nearby to help you rescue the victim.
  • Reach or Throw, Don’t Go: Do not enter the water if you are not trained and equipped to do so. Instead, use a long object like a pole, branch, or towel to reach the victim, or throw a buoy or lifebuoy to them. This technique is called “Reach or Throw, Don’t Go,” and it is a safe and effective way to rescue someone from a distance.
  • Grab and Go: If the victim is within arm’s reach, you can use the “Grab and Go” technique. Reach out and grab the victim’s arm, wrist, or clothing and pull them towards you. Swim back to the shore or the side of the pool, while supporting the victim’s head and keeping it above the water.
  • Roll them to their side: Once the victim is out of the water, place them on their side to prevent choking and clear their airway. If they are not breathing, perform CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) or rescue breathing. If you are not trained in CPR, continue to monitor their breathing and keep them warm until help arrives.
  • Remember, prevention is the best way to avoid accidents in the water. Always follow safety rules and regulations, swim with a buddy, and be aware of your surroundings. Be prepared and stay calm in case of an emergency, and act quickly to save a life.
